Promote And Preserve The Culture
Fifteen years ago, a noble idea developed in the minds of a group of civic spirited Ilocanos who wanted to promote cultural awareness and preserve the rich historical and cultural heritage of Ilocos Norte. They wanted to rekindle in the youth and future generations the pride of their heritage. The magnificent idea developed and is now a living reality, KANNAWIDAN, the Iloko Foundation of Arts and Culture.
Kannawidan
is a variant of the Ilocano word "tawid" meaning heritage or
inheritance. Kannawidan has its beginnings in 1992 when Guia Monroy Valenciano,
then vice-president of PCI Bank, began sounding out to friends about establishing
a museum. It is
a yearly celebration that means to make mindfulness on the conservation
of the area' rich social legacy, practices and conventions, and a grandstand of
the diverse horticulture and industry results of the province.
The first challenge they
must partake in putting up or celebrating the festival in the midst of this
pandemic or this COVID19 is they must synchronize what or how to start the
festival without violating the health protocols and not to spread the virus in
that particular area. Since I’ve been
there one time these last month, what they did to maintain the health protocols
is they check the temperature and show your QR code to the scanner then
alcohol.
There are lot of festivals
that we waited for a one year but because of this pandemic all things and events that we thought it was really fun
and interesting but happy, enjoyable and innovative events became the opposite
of it. We are all adjusting this pandemic from what normal things we do last
years to a new normal. Let’s help each other to fight this pandemic.
